Aubum's ABLE Program provides FREE services for:

GED Preparation: classes to prepare for the Official GED test.
Employment Skills: brush up on math and reading skiIIs.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL):language classes to learn to speak,read,and write English.
Distance Education: work from home in addition to class time.

You must attend an Orientation Session before beginning classes. You may attend Orientation at any location,regardless of where you plan to attend class. Exception: all ESOL Orientations are held at our Painesville ABLE Site.

To be eligible for classes,a student must be 19 years of age. Students 16-17 years of age must meet the age exceptions listed in the Ohio Administrative Code. Call for details.

GED Information
The GED test is a computer based test that must be taken at an official testing center.
Aubum Career Center is an OFFICIAL TESTING CENTER. Auburn can also issue you a state voucher for $80 that will help cover the
$120 cost of the test. You will only pay $40.
Many students ask how long they will need to attend class in order to take the Official GED test. This depends on your skill level, how often you attend,and personal circumstances.

Classes for English Speakers of Other Languages are only held at our Painesville ABLE Site. You can call that site at
440-354-5551 to schedule an orientation date and time.

ONLINE REFRESHERS - VILT

The Ohio EMT Refresher Training Program is a State of Ohio virtual instructor led training program designed to refresh EMT skills.  The course covers the transition material required to become a nationally registered EMT.  Emergency Medical Technicians who successfully complete this course must demonstrate competency through written and practical testing over the knowledge and psychomotor skills outlined in this refresher training program prior to receiving a certificate of completion.  The course includes 30 hours online content and an 8 hour skills verification session.

The Ohio AEMT Refresher training program is a State of Ohio virtual instructor led training program designed to refresh advanced EMT skills.  The Ohio AEMT Refresher Training Program is divided into the following subject areas:  Airway Management & Ventilation, Medicine, Cardiology, Medical Emergencies, Trauma Issues, Special Populations, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatric Issues, Geriatric Issues and EMS Preparatory and Operations.  Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians who successfully complete this course must demonstrate competency through written and practical testing over the knowledge and psychomotor skills outlined in this refresher training program prior to receiving a certificate of completion.  The course contains 40 hours of online content and one 8 hour skills verification session.

The didactic portion of the Ohio Paramedic Refresher Training Program is a State of Ohio virtual instructor led training program designed to refresh Paramedic skills.  The Ohio Paramedic Refresher Training program consists of 48 hours of online content and one 8 hour skills verification session. Paramedics who successfully complete this course must demonstrate competency through written and practical testing over the knowledge and psychomotor skills outline in this refresher training program prior to receiving a certificate of completion.

EMT

The Emergency Medical Technician program prepares students to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. Successful completion of the program allows the graduate to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians certification examination. This EMT-Basic Program is accredited by the Ohio Division of EMS and meets the NEW National EMT Curriculum.  An additional 24 hours clinical time is required. Additional Fees may apply for immunizations, fingerprints and certification testing. ODPS#302

PRACTICAL NURSING

The school of nursing at Auburn Career Center was established in 2007.  Successful completion of this 1,200 clock hour program affords the individual the opportunity to take the licensure examination (NCLEX-PN) for practical nursing.  The program focuses on delivering high quality nursing care to clients in any stage of wellness or illness across the lifespan.  As part of Auburn's Health Career Pathway Partnership with Lakeland Community College, students who complete the program will be able to continue their career pathway education in Lakeland's Associate Degree program.

This course covers commercial and structure maintenance and repair, including safety, electrical, welding, carpentry, masonry, walls, windows, HVAC, plumbing, and roofing. PARAMEDIC

This intensive, 1020-hour class-hour course meets the new National Standard Curriculum for Paramedic.  It is a comprehensive, rigorous State of Ohio accredited program designed to take a Basic or Intermediate EMT to the next level in the EMS or firefighting career.  The course integrates online, classroom, practical, and clinical experiences to provide refinement of skills learned.  Successful completion of this exam is necessary for State of Ohio Paramedic certification.  This program currently holds a letter of review from CoAEMSP.  ODPS Accreditation #302.

Prerequisite: EMT-Basic or Intermediate EMT.

This comprehensive program is designed to teach the fundamentals of the welding process.  Including welding safety, plasma cutting, oxy/fuel cutting, carbon arc gauging, SMAW (stick) process, GMAW (MIG) process, GTAW (TIG) process, brazing, fabrication, measuring tools, blue print reading with welding symbol recognition, proper use of shop equipment and hand tools.  Proper gas, rod and wire selections for each welding process including proper welding equipment set up including equipment problem recognition.  Welding certifications available.  Tools needed for course is as follows:  clear safety glasses, welding hood, welding jacket or fire retardant welders long sleeve shirt, welding gloves, leather boots.

EMS CLASSES

Auburn Career Center is accredited by the state of Ohio to teach all levels of EMS providers. Auburn Career Center holds a letter of review with CoAEMSP for National Accreditation. Auburn Career Center offers all levels of EMS Education Below you can find information about the courses and a Link to register for the courses on line.

Emergency Medical Technician- EMT starts every August and February and Lasts for 5 1/2 months. The EMT is an entry level EMS program that all students must start with if you plan on a career in EMS. Auburn Career Center's program is 220 Hours long which includes 24 hours of Clinical Field Internship time. Our program is a fast paced program that will prepare the student for the National Registry exam. 

Paramedic Program - Paramedic starts every August and is 11 1/2 months long. The paramedic program is for EMT's and EMT-A's who want to take their EMS education to the next level. Our program is 1020 hours long which includes 500 hours Clinical Field Internship time. Our program is a fast paced program that will prepare the student for the national registry exam.

Online EMS Refreshers- Auburn Career Center offers all three levels of EMS refreshers online in the virtual instructor lead training fashion (VILT). The program runs 4 times a year for three months each session. You can start anytime in each session and work at your own pace. The student must be finished with the online portion and the 8 hour skill verification day by the last day of the session. The 8 hour skill verification will be atAuburnCareerCenter and offered on two dates during each session. The VILT refreshers are accepted by the state of Ohio, the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and is the transition course for the new NREMT guidelines.
